Friday Work vs Synara

By Arun Dass · Published 21 October 2026

Both keep your coding agents on your own computer. Synara is a free, local-first desktop app for one person running many agents, with handoff between providers. Friday Work puts a team and its agents in one live session, where people watch, steer and take over, and the agents message each other.

What is Friday Work?

Friday Work is a multiplayer AI workspace for coding teams. Your people and your coding agents work in one live session: the same task, the same record, the same tools. It works in your browser; the desktop app for Windows and Mac is optional.

  • Teammates join a session by link, watch every step, suggest changes and take control when it is their turn.
  • Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and 11 more coding agents run on your own machine and your own plans, side by side in one session, with Friday’s own agent when you want it.
  • Smart routing suggests the agent and model most likely to get each task right, for the least, and a project brain briefs whichever agent comes next.
  • Continue a Claude Code, Codex or Cursor session you already have, instead of starting over.
  • Plan, Manual or Auto: you decide what an agent may do, and approve its commands as a team.
  • Connect GitHub, Slack, Linear and 80+ more tools over MCP once, and choose which agents may use them.
  • Free for one person. Team Basic is $15 a seat a month and Team Pro $30, and new teams get Team Basic free for 7 days.

When is Synara the better pick?

If you are one developer who wants a free, local app to run several agents and move work between providers, and you have no need for anyone else to see it, Synara is simple and costs nothing.

When is Friday the better pick?

If a second person needs to see what an agent is doing, if work stalls when the person driving an agent is away, or if you want agents to share context with each other, Friday fits. A teammate joins by link in a browser, and can take over with the history intact. Friday also asks a person before an agent runs a command in Manual mode, in front of the whole session.

Friday does store the session record so that your team can watch and replay it. The security page lists what is stored and what is not done yet. A purely local tool avoids that, at the price of not being shareable.

How does handoff differ?

In both, the point is to move work between agents without starting over. In Friday the handoff carries the task, what was found, which files were read and what was run, and it can go to a teammate as well as an agent. We measured the effect on one pair of agents in the hand-off benchmark, and it has limits that page lists.
